St. Paul's Celebrated our 150th Anniversary!!!
St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church celebrated its 150th anniversary during 2014.  As we celebrated, we were especially interested in the history of our church.

Did you know...... that St. Paul's was know as the German Lutheran Church? During the Civil War, about 1862, some Lutherans immigrated to North East, PA from Pomerania, Germany.  It was early in 1864 when a group of these German immigrants assembled to consider the founding of a Lutheran Church since there was no church of their religious conviction in the area.  They requested Rev. Peter Brandt of Farnham, NY to serve them.  Under his leadership, St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized in May 1864 with 13 charter members.

CHRIST ALONE:  Three guideposts - the three solas ("alones") in Latin - served Luther and other reformers in picking their way through the possible interpretations of the Christian faith.
BY SCRIPTURE ALONE - notwithstanding the centuries of church teachings and traditions, only God's word is our sure guide for faith and life.
BY FAITH ALONE - although we feel we need something to exchange for God's love, only the empty hands of faith (trust) in God's promises receive God's gift of a right relation with Him.
BY GRACE ALONE - in spite of our success or failure at faithful discipleship, only God's own undeserved love, offered in his Son Jesus, moves Him to draw us into His family.
